Reaching Out
to Serve Others

  • The Giving Tree - You can make a child's Christmas special by providing a gift for Christmas. The City of Gaithersburg sponsors the program, and this year we are working with Rachel Carson Elementary School to porvide a happy Christmas for students there. Gifts are due back to the church by Wed., Dec. 14.

  • Adopted Family – Prince of Peace has adopted a family in our neighborhood. The family has recently immigrated to the US, and we are working to provide them with warm clothing and other necessities. There is a list in our church narthex to sign up to provide one or more of these gifts.

  • Gifts of Hope is an alternative gift program. Traditional gift giving involves buying an item to give to a relative or friend. Alternative giving involves buying a symbol of a gift and giving the symbol to someone. The actual item goes to someone who needs the gift. For example, you could buy new sheets for homeless women or food for an abandoned child in El Salvador. You will receive a Christmas card with a description of each gift that you choose. The Gifts of Hope "market" opens December 3rd and runs through December 18th - before and after services in the narthex.

  • Ongoing Social Ministry Projects – We continue to remember to support the backdoor ministries during the holidays! Our collections of boxes of cereal, pasta, sauce, tuna and other donations continue for Gaithersburg HELP. We also continue to collect old cell phones (which are given to people at risk for domestic violence), cancelled stamps (for the National Lutheran Home), Campbell's soup labels (actually only the UPC code, which go to the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission) and hotel-size toiletries (for shelter residents).
