Faithful Families met on April 24 and celebrated the Easter Season with crafts, songs, dinner and the story of Jesus’ resurrection! Parents, grandparents and kids all had a great time and grew together in faith.
Earth Day at Prince of Peace included songs and sermons focusing on the blessing of God’s creation and our call to live as the community of our Risen Lord by how we care for all that God has given us. One concrete step we took was for our Creation Care Team to replace all the lights in our old Exit signs with high efficiency LED lights, replacing 40W consumption with 2.4W consumption. These LED lights were provided to us by Greater Washington Interfaith Power and Light www.gwipl.org Parents’ Night Out was a big success on April 11! Children in pre-school and elementary ages are invited to come to the church for food and fun where they’re supervised by our High School kids and one or two adults while the parents get to have a night out! These events are held about once a month throughout the year.
Christ is Risen! Prince of Peace began our 50 day celebration of Jesus’ Resurrection on Easter Sunday, March 23! Over 340 people gathered during two festive services as began the seven weeks of the season of Easter in which we hear the Risen Jesus’ call to share the good news of life and forgiveness in both word and deed.
30 Hour Famine - 16 high school students and 6 adults participated in WorldVision’s 30 hr famine to raise awareness of hunger issues. They learned about hunger through games and Bible studies; prayed; and volunteered at a local clothing drive. As one student wrote: “Yes, we had a lot of fun and we helped those in our community, but the real purpose of the famine, and what we all felt, was a change in our mindset. Never again will anyone who participated listen to those hunger facts without speaking out and reaching out. We came to church on Friday as hungry humans, and left as spiritually filled and strengthened servants of God.”
Our Lenten midweek worship services this year featured members of our congregation who shared their stories of God at work in their lives. Karen Kimmel-Militzer and Bridget Pavlak shared their faith journey stories with us in March, joining Mark Ludder, Ben Shuman and Linda & Bill Prueter from February.
